M11 Link Road - Opening

Dear friends,

I have heard that the first section of the M11 Link Road through Wanstead is due to be opened on the 7th June. Not very far off, is it?

Wanstead Against the M11 / Residents Against the Link (RAL) are holding a meeting to discuss the situation at 8.00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the URC Church just off Wanstead High Street (Nightingale Lane entrance). Nearest tube is "Wanstead" on central line east london

All who were involved in the campaign against the M11 are very welcome to attend.

Cheers,

KATY.

You've got to be choking

When the mainstream media largely ignored or trivialised the largest anti roads movement, undercurrents was born!

In April 1994 http://www.undercurrents.org launched Britains first alternative news video and notified the world of Britains largest urban anti roads protest. The destruction of 350 homes and thousands of mature trees to build an out of date road scheme has devastated an East London community.

The road is due to open in June 1999

The video feature "You've got to be choking" charts the massive protest to stop the road being built won an international environmental award in Germany and played a vital part in motivating thousands of activists to stop the Tory governments massive road building schemes.

The video feature depicts when -

800 police tried to evict 3 houses
The first tree house to become an offical dwelling
How one Sweet chestnut tree cost over £1million in police costs to cut down

In June 1999, The M11 link road is due to open.
