Dunford Quarry Camp (Bristol)
PARK KEEPERS
Bristol City Council has leased 20 acres of the Ashton Court park to
Pioneer Aggregates, an Australian multinational, who want to expand
Durnford Quarry, against the wishes of locals. The project is scheduled
to begin any day and will destroy 20 acres of land, leaving a 100 metre
deep hole. Pioneer have agreed to transplant parts of the park, which
supports a diverse habitat, including several rare species, however
RSPCA officers have stated that there is an badger sett in this field
and the heavy machinery needed to prepare the site will traumatise the
badger cubs. A camp has been set up.
