Subject: Salisbury Bypass - Calling All Archeologists
Salisbury Bypass
Calling all Archaeologists:
14th June- Archaeologists and development: At Newbury, 14 archaeological
sites were trashed by the bypass. The planned Salibury bypass threatens
another 31 in what the Department of Transport calls " one of the greatest
concentrations of prehistoric and romano British sites in Britain". Healthy
work for the diggers or the mad trashing of our cultural heritage?
Archaeologists and any other concerned people are invited to an informal one
day meeting to discuss these issues and how they can help stop this road.
The meeting will be held at Salisbury Museum (opposite the Cathedral) from
11am on 14th June. Speakers from Council for British Archaeology, The Land
is Ours, Campaign for the Protection of Rural England et al. Further info
from PO Box 162, Winchester, SO22 5ZD.
