report on "Kill Car Culture" demo & parade - Durham
Sun, banners & protest brought the streets of Durham alive on 27th June, when students from 'People and Planet' were joined by other residents on a "Kill Car Culture" demo and parade. Car drivers had been leafletted the week before, and the message got into the local press. For a brief moment, even the cars on the Bailey (a narrow road that goes nowhere, is heavily used by pedestrians, but has a tiny footpath and is usually crammed with cars) were halted. Those who took part were clear on one thing: the parade will continue, on and on...
