Headline : Poster doctored to make incinerator protest
ANONYMOUS protestors have doctored a poster in Newcastle city centre to highlight a campaign against a controversial incinerator.
The billboard in New Bridge Street, originally used to advertise the Investors In People initiative, has been altered to read 'How do you stop people leaving Byker? Close Byker incinerator!', followed by a drawing of a smoking chimney.
Residents living near the Byker incinerator are protesting against plans to more than double the volume of waste burned there as they fear emissions from the plant are a threat to health.
In October last year, protestors climbed 40ft up the incinerator to hoist a banner highlighting their cause. No-one has yet claimed responsibility for doctoring the city centre billboard.
