The Earth First! Summer Gathering 2000

7th - 11th June 2000

Since 1992, the Earth First! Summer Gathering has been a space for everyone involved or interested in ecological direct action, from around Britain and abroad, to come together, learn new skills and discuss ideas and plans for action. This year's gathering is being held on a beautiful site in the mountains of Snowdonia. We are a diverse community with a wide range of approaches to our action and so there should be plenty to interest and inspire you whether you have been active for years or are completely new to it all. So what's going to be happening?

Well over 100 workshops, focussed on sharing skills and ideas, planning campaigns and networking for all aspects of ecological resistance. National and international campaigns round-ups - find out what groups around the country and further afield are up to. Other, more relaxed and fun activities, such as rock-climbing, geodesic dome building, nature walks and visits to local places of interest. A range of evening entertainments to suit all tastes! (although sorry no sound systems etc.) A kid's area, where it will be possible to leave children during workshops (if you have queries about the level of supervision, then get in touch with us.)

On the site there will be a reception, a reading library of anarchist and radical ecological books, a quiet sleeping area, toilets and running water, spaces for spontaneous workshops and discussions and a stall selling books and pamphlets. Commercial stalls are not welcome but remember to bring any information that you have about your group campaign or forthcoming action - as well as some copies of any publications that you produce.

Got Something To Offer?

The success of the gathering depends on people coming forward with ideas for, or offers of, workshops. And of course, the outline for the gathering above is just the plan of the organisers. If you have any ideas for other discussions or activities that aren't mentioned here then let us know, we will no doubt be able to fit it in. If you can help out setting up or clearing away or want to get involved then please contact the gathering collective (address overleaf).

Earth First! is not a cohesive group or campaign, but a convenient banner for people who share similar philosophies to work under. The general principles behind the name are non-hierarchical organisation and the use of direct action to confront, stop and eventually reverse the forces that are responsible for the destruction of Earth and its inhabitants.

Arrive: Tuesday 6th to help with the last bit of setting up. Workshops will take place from Wednesday 7th to Sunday 11th but please stay until Monday to help pack up. Help is very much needed setting up and packing away before and after the gathering.

Getting There: The exact location will be announced the week before the gathering. For travel directions and a map, send a stamped addressed envelope marked 'gathering map' to the address below. Otherwise check the website. To find out about lift-share possibilities, phone 0113 262 9365

Cost: At the gate we will be asking for £10 from every person to cover the costs of organising the gathering. Any donations to help put this gathering on would be very useful. Make cheques and postal orders payable to 'Earth First! Gathering'.

Accommodation: The accommodation is camping space only so come equipped. Women Only camping space will be provided. We aim to make the site as fully accessible to all as we can. If you have any special needs, contact us (address below).

Dogs: Please try to leave your dog at home if you can, but if this is not possible then contact us in advance and we should be able to make some arangement. Any dogs that turn up that haven't made arrangements with the organisers will be turned away.

Food: The Anarchist Teapot Action Kitchen will be cooking for us. You can buy their meal tickets (about £3 per day) or you can cook your own. There will also be a provisions store selling a few basic supplies.

Cameras: This is an activist gathering not a press event, so if you are coming as a journalist then you are not welcome. Also please respect the wishes of some people not to be photographed and leave your camera at home.

Croeso i Gynhadledd hāf 2000 Prydeinig Y Ddaear Yn Gyntaf!

Ers 1992 mae cynhadledd hāf Y Ddaear yn Gyntaf wedi bod yn gyfle i bawb sy'n cymrud rhan neu ā diddoreb mewn, geithredu'n uniongyrchol ar gyfer yr amgylchfyd, o amgylch Prydain a thramor, i ddod at eu gilydd, dysgu sciliau newydd, trafod syniadau a chynllunio gweithredoedd. Mae'r gynhadledd eleni yn cael ei cynnal ar safle prydferth ym mynyddoedd Eryri. Rydym yn gymuned amrywiol gyda nifer o wahanol agweddau tuag at weithredu, dylai fod digon yma i'ch ysbridoli, petai chi wedi bod yn weithredol am flynyddoedd neu yn newydd i'r holl beth. Beth sy'n mynd i ddigwydd?

Dros 100 o weithdai yn edrych ar rhannu sciliau a syniadau, cynllunio ymgyrchoedd a rhwydweithio pob agwedd o wrthsafiad ecolegol. Golwg ar ymgyrchoedd cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol - darganfod beth sy'n digwydd gyda grwpiau o amgylch Prydain ac ymhellach. Gweithgareddau mwy hwylus fel dringo creigiau, adeiladu 'geodesic dome', taith gerdded natur ac ymweld ā safleoedd o ddiddordeb lleol. Amrywiaeth o adloniant gyda'r nos at flās pawb. (Mae'n ddrwg gyda ni ond fe fydd na ddim systemau sain.) Man i'r plant, lle fyddai'n bosib i adael plant yn ystod gweithdai (os oes gyda chi gwestiynnau ynglyn ā lefel arolygiaeth y plant, yna cysylltwch ā ni.)

Ar y safle fe fydd derbynfa, llyfrgell yn cynnwys llyfrau radical ecolegol ac anarchydd, man cysgu tawel, tai bach, dwr, safleoedd er gyfer gweithdai a thrafodaethau yn y fan a'r lle, a stondyn yn gwerthu llyfrau a phamffledau. Does dim croeso ar gyfer stondynnau masnachol, ond cofiwch ddod ag unrhyw wybodaeth sydd gennych yn ymwneud ā'ch grwp neu ymgyrch - yn ogystal ā chopiau o unrhyw gyhoeddiadau yr ydych yn cynhyrchu.

Oes gennych chi rhywbeth i gynnig?

Mae llwyddiant y gynhadledd yn dibynnu ar bobl i ddod ā syniadau neu i gynnig gweithdai. Os oes gennych chi syniadau ar gyfer trafodaethau neu weithgareddau eraill yna gadewch i ni wybod ac fe fydden ni'n siwr o allu eu cynnwys. Os ydych chi'n gallu helpu yna cysylltwch ā'r trefnwyr (cyfeiriad drosodd).

Dyw Y Ddaear Yn Gyntaf! ddim yn grwp cydlynnol neu ymgyrch penodol, ond yn faner cyfleus ar gyfer pobl sy'n rhannu athronyddiaeth tebyg i medru gweithio odanni. Yr egwyddorion cyffredinol tu ōl i'r enw yw cymdeithas sydd ddim yn hierarchaidd a gweithredu yn uniongyrchol i herio, atal, ac yn y pen draw gwrthdroi y grymoedd sy'n gyfrifol am ddinistr sydd yn digwydd i'r Ddaear a rheini sy'n byw arni.
