LIFE IN THE FASLANE
The Valentine’s Day demo at the Faslane Naval Base, home of the Trident nuclear submarines, resulted in 179 arrests - the largest arrest of the New Millennium! Around 400 anti-nuclear protestors descended on the base and blocked the main entrances in an attempt to prevent employees reaching their workplace. They managed to close down the main road for four and a half hours! A spokesperson from the base gave his opinion, "The workforce is sick and tired of these people trying to stop us earning a living". Those arrested may be charged with minor criminal damage.
